tuck under garage insulationTuck Under Garage Insulation

At MGT Insulation, we’ll help you maximize the comfort and efficiency of your entire home or building by checking for moisture and air leakage and installing high-quality insulation products in your tuck under garage.

Prior to 1986, Minnesota tuck under garages were poorly sealed and poorly insulated, creating a large weak area in the structure’s insulation system.

This large weak area leads to poor indoor air quality. For example, when warming up parked vehicles in poorly insulated and sealed tuck under garages, dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can enter your home and compromise your family’s safety. A properly insulated tuck under garage also dramatically increases your comfort.

Tuck Under Garage Insulation Installation Process

Due to the risks of fumes from the garage, it is especially essential to air-seal and insulate tuck under garages, as well as the wall that separates your home or working space from the garage. (This separation wall can be found on many styles of houses with attached garages.)

Here’s how we make your tuck under garage safe and efficient:

1: Diagnostic Testing

Our highly trained technicians use state-of-the-art equipment to identify areas of energy savings for you. An infrared camera, especially done in conjunction with a blower door test, can identify uninsulated and poorly insulated ceiling and floor cavities.

Note: We also recommend the investment in an independent energy audit from your utility company.  The cost is fairly low and heavily subsidized — meaning that its actual cost would be much higher without the contribution by the utility.

2: Prep Work Area

We carefully protect your home, business, and belongings with thorough worksite preparation, including clean drop cloths, plastic, window jamb protectors, corner guards, and our state-of-the-art Air Scrubber filtration system.

3: Drill Holes

A row of small access holes are opened in the ceiling and floor cavities to minimize dust and debris.

4: Add Insulation

Insulation is added using the dense-pack method.

5: Plug and Patch Holes

Drilled holes are plugged and patched and made ready for light sanding.

6: Post Blower Door Test

We perform another blower door test to determine your home or business’s increase in comfort due to reduced air leakage throughout your tuck under garage.

7: Health and Safety Check

Our crews perform a “Worst Case Scenario” test to ensure that your structure is safe from carbon monoxide and your family, pets, employees, or customers are protected.

8: Clean Work Area

Our crews know how to broom-clean and vacuum!

9: Post Inspection

To ensure that our job is complete, we walk with you through your home or business to inspect the work. During this time, we’ll answer any questions, get your stamp of approval on our service, and have you complete our job satisfaction survey!
